Around the 3rd week of the semester – it will be announced in our Facebook group – we make auditions for the full-length play. They usually span over 2-3 day in the evening and take roughly 2.5 hours each.
The process itself consists of a seated reading – there is no movement or memorization required, you just sit on a chair and read the lines in character. Our goal is to hear your voice expression at first.
At the beginning, everyone chooses which character they are most interested in playing. However, you can be asked to try some other characters as well. You are not limited to audition for characters of same gender as yours.
The casting decisions will be announced on the final day of the auditions, and also in the Facebook group.
Prior participation in the ActofKAA does not provide preference in casting. Our priority is to construct the best cast possible through a fair casting process. (That being said, in a case when there is a special requirement for a role, the director may cast a person before auditions.) We have a rule that every cast must contain new members. It secures a smooth transition between seniors and freshmen. We are a student theatre and no member sticks around forever.
